The Urban Institute of Family Literacy is a research-based family literacy program that provides parents with a comprehensive system to assist them in promoting literacy in their homes and improving their child's academic success. The program empowers parents as the primary educators and advocates for their children in home, school and work settings with all parent/guardians (including the primary and secondary custodial parent) that have a relationship with their children.
This approach is for all families: including those who need more challenges and structure, students that are currently under-performing, students with disabilities, and parents with & without literacy difficulties. With the current economic crisis in the country, it is now more important than ever as parents to support and supplement the school system in the home with learning tools. The Urban Institute of Family Literacy is a member of the Urban Education Partnership of Maryland.
The Urban Education Partnership of Maryland is a consortium of community-based organizations dedicated to strengthening parental involvement and family literacy in the school community.
